The Italian TT Champion

The race yesterday went very well. When I arrived in Pescara I wasn't too worried about the starters and other racers because I felt that nobody deserved the title more than me. Events in the previous weeks had made me race a lot. I felt good after the last 2 stages of the Giro, and in Philadelphia I rode a very good race. During the Tour de Suisse, my legs and my body felt really good, even better than at the Giro, but my mind was focused on the TT and I saved most of the energies for that goal.

The TT race was almost perfect. Matteo Algeri and Carmine Magliaro followed me in the car. Matteo was great and kept me informed so often that I had a view of the situation almost every km. I controlled Bruseghin until the last moment. With 4 kms to go, Matteo told me I had only 4" or 5". I said to myself, 'let's see if he still has energy and stamina like me' and I arrived with 7". After the race I was happy, feeling like it had already happened to me in a dream, and now I really feel calm and relaxed.

My wife Michela couldn't believe me when I phoned her with the good news! I want to thank above all my father and my trainer Omar (see his website: www.mentalperformance.it) Now I think I will start also in the road champs. I will talk with Michela (she wants me to start) and maybe I will go to Pescara at the last moment Saturday night by plane.
