Ciao BiciRace.com,
I have just returned to my home in Australia after my first team meeting with my new Discovery Channel Team in Austin Texas. The camp was good and it was great to meet my new team mates, and staff that will look after us. I am very impressed with the organization and the involvement that the sponsors have with the team. Our sponsors are very particular in making sure we have everything we need. Our Trek Madone bikes are very nice pieces of equipment, not to mention super light.
The weather in Austin was cold to what I was used to I Australia, some days there was even ice on the cars and roads. I did find out my race schedule, and it seems like a great introduction to European road racing after having only raced mountain bikes in Europe before. It will mean some big changes in the way I train as mountain bike racing is fairly different to road racing.
The changes are not only in training as I will also be moving from my USA base to Europe for the race season. I am pleased to say that next year I will be living in Varese with some other Australians to keep me from getting homesick. Some of the riders I already train with in Australia I will be living with, so that will be helpful for me. I really enjoy the Italian lifestyle and culture, which is another reason for me to live there during the race season. I have been taking some lessons to help me speak Italian which will hopefully make my experiences even more enjoyable.
I will spend about another month here in Australia, training in fine weather and enjoying some time with my family at Christmas. After that I have another training camp in the US with Discovery before I head to Varese. My first race will be at the start of the March in France.
Thanks for reading,
Trent
