Stage Profile
It is always interesting to see what the riders are doing every morning in the Village Depart. This area, with food and coffee, is a great place for riders to meet with their other riders, team directors or journalists. Some riders relax on their own and read a paper while others, specifically the Australians and Colombians, remain in their groups.
This morning we noted that it was 22 year-old Riccardo Riccò following Gibo around. Gilberto Simoni was obliging the sponsors, signing some autographs for company representatives who were visiting, and was more than happy to have his compatriot tag-along. Riccardo continued to follow Gibo for a caffè before being interrupted by BiciRace.com for a quick chat.
"I am rooming with David Millar but I am always following him [Gibo] around," said Riccardo under the morning sun.
There can be a lot learned from a champion, even off the road.
The climbing days are over for the Tour de France and Gibo, although winless, can be proud of his accomplishments.
