The start of Tour de France stage 16 was amazing; thousands of cycling tifosi were out, many on bikes, to cheer on their heroes. Under warm sun, Gilberto Simoni received a huge and warm welcome in the starting city of Bourg-d'Oisans. Even though we are in France Gibo draws a huge crowd and a lot of attention.
The applause was well rewarded, Gibo went on the attack as soon as the race started. The Italian joined forces with a small gruppo and covered the massive Col du Galibier, a climb of 45.6K in length and topping out at 2646 meters.
Gibo's move showed bravery and that is what earns the tifosi.
