Gilberto Simoni is Saunier Duval-Prodir's GC man. Gibo is only 5'34" back on Honchar in the overall classification and given a good run in the mountains Simoni could step onto the podium in Paris.

"Gibo's time trial yesterday was neither slow nor really fast, but it was good," simply said Matteo Algeri, Team DS, at the start of stage 8. "He was there with Garzelli and much better than Cunego. I think he will have chance for a good GC ride. We think that he will have a better opportunity for a high classification than Marchante."

Another person who has an interesting view point on Gibo is Greg St Johns. The American, who is filming The Quest 2, followed the three-week Giro d'Italia and is also here for the duration of the Tour de France.

"For our film it would be great if Simoni did ride well in the GC or win the stage of the Alpe d'Huez," said St Johns, who is producing a film tracking Saunier Duval-Prodir's lead-up and ride of the Tour de France. "With the other big guys now out of the Tour, Gibo has a good chance at the overall."

If Gibo will make his moves it will be in the coming two weeks when the Tour hits the high-mountains. Tonight and tomorrow, Gibo will enjoy a day of relaxation, likely calling his wife and children to see how life is back home in Palù di Giovo.
