I don't know what to say! I have chills thinking about Floyd Landis amazing performance today! It was a legendary ride in the mold of the greats like Merckx and Coppi. I'm sure nobody has closed a gap with an exploit like that in the post war era.
Yesterday, I said his tour was over, just like that. Well, obviously the DD was wrong. I even made a joke to one of my colleaugues, "maybe tomorrow Landis will pull an Ullrich (circa '98) and attack to win the stage...?" I didn't think he really would, and that it would actually amount to anything! I'll bet Mr. Armstrong is green with envy that his former lieutenant pulled off something like this he never did in his seven victories.
This Tour just keeps getting better and better each day. The last 3 days in the Alpes have been the best racing I've seen since I've been a fan of cycling. Everybody is out everyday with their dukes up and swinging for glory. Nobody is hiding anything, and it's impossible to tell what will happen next. From a fan's point of view, what could be more ideal?
So, here he is back in the action. With a mere 30 seconds seperating him and Pereiro and some world class time-trialing abilities at his disposal, No Fuss-Floyd is looking good to take yellow for the third-you got it-third time this Tour, and hold it for good this time.
I don't think Pereiro and Sastre will be able to defend themselves from the shower of punches Landis will be Landing on Saturday. And I think Kloden,Menchov and Evans are too far arrears to make a dent in their deficit to Landis. But, I've thought alot of things were impossible in this Tour and I'm being proved wrong on a daily basis, here so who am I to make predictions about anything?
Wow!
