Wow, so far Tom Boonen still hasn't managed to bag a stage victory in the Tour. He's been upstaged by Hushovd, McEwen (twice) and even Jimmy Casper in sprint finishes that he should normally be pushing it just a bit more in. Maybe he's suffering from just a light curse of the rainbow jersey...? He seems to be overlooking basic sprinting details like finding himself at the front too soon, or leading out in a headwind.

Although, having the Maillot Jaune for a few days running as well as Green in there isn't exactly a disappointing outing for even Boonen. The Belgians have to be happy even without a stage win. It's not like they have a lot of potential Tour winners or even intermediate candidates for the yellow jersey! They should be happy with what they got.

Oscar Freire came around at the very last second to snatch victory from under Boonen's nose in what is the triple world champs second stage victory in the Tour, and a pretty crafty one at that. He saved everything for that last little surge to avoid being out in the headwind too long.

Bravo Oscar!
