Cooke Wins Euro Season Opener

The Euro season has officially begun with the finish of the GP d'Ouverture La Marseillaise in Le Tholonet. Baden Cooke sprinted to victory for his new Belgian squadra, Unibet.com. Hot on the Aussie's heels were Belgian Philippe Gilbert (Française Des Jeux) and French Anthony Geslin (Bouygues Telecom).

The sprint was not without the rumble, 500 meters from the finish there was a crash. The crash left Ag2R Prévoyance teammates, Simon Gerrans and Philip Deignan, and Maurizio Carta of Miche to gather themselves and their team rigs off the ground.

Cooke (27), who's palmarès include Green Jersey in the 2003 Tour de France, recorded his 56th carrier win.
