Aaron Olson and Saunier Duval-Prodir Updates
Stage List,
Stage Profile
Stationed on the upper slopes of Passo di Fedaia (Marmolada), near the section of 15%, BiciRace.com had a good look at Aaron Olson when he passed by. The Americano was suffering like a dog!
The Saunier Duval-Prodir team had Piepoli and Simoni at the head, followed by Pinotti on his own, then Litu and Mori, finally it was Olson. He was far back but he had company.
After the top, one kilometer later, Olson would be able to rejoin the riders ahead by staying in the gruppetto. They were forming a large safe group that could safely make it to the finish before time cut.
It is not only surviving and suffering like a dog for Olson, early on he was working for Simoni. The Americano provided pace-making and other domestique duties for his team captain, then easing off in the latter half of the stage to save himself for tomorrow's mountains affair.
These domestiques, like their team captains, know how to dose their efforts.
