BiciRace.com had a chance to chat with Matteo Algeri in Francavilla al Mare, before the start of stage 9 of the Giro d'Italia. We asked why the Saunier Duval-Prodir boys were chasing the escape in yesterday's stage 8, when they had Marco Pinotti in the move. "We wanted to show that the team was strong, give a feeling of unity, and Gilberto was interested in the stage victory," said il Bergamasco.
After the stage we caught Matteo back at the team's hotel. How was the stage? "Easy stage today but it was a little hilly finale! So the team had to bring Gibo in the first part of the field, on the last climb, because the downhill was fast."
We saw Aaron Olson ride very well yesterday. Today, a hot day, he was getting water bottles for the team leaders. How many can he carry at once in his jersey? "Olson can bring six bottles in his jersey."
