28 year-old Aaron Olson started la Corsa Rosa at 15.32 in Seraing, Belgium. Surely l'Americano must have kept his Bergamasco roomie, Marco Pinotti, up late last night asking how to ride a time trial in a Grand Tour. And Pinotti's advice: Take it easy, this is a race of three weeks and Simoni will need you later.

Olson finished with a time of 1'17" off of the day's winner, Paolo Savoldelli (Discovery Channel). His roommate finished 39" back. Pinotti looked super-fast and must have been aided by the tricolore skinsuit of Italian Time Trial Champion. Santini had redesigned the layout of the red, white and green kit, and it looked fast.

"Gibo is very good," said Pino before his start. "I have to go ride. ... But he [Simoni] is really excited for the Giro to arrive in Italy. And also to race."

Gilberto Simoni started his run at the 89th Giro d'Italia at 17.45. Il Trentino was on a "normal" Scott crono machine, tomorrow he departs on his cool new Scott CR1, in Rosa.

Simoni, how did it go? "It was good. [Time of 8'16"] It was really good because my time was great, and I will be ready for a good Giro..."
