The CSC team time trial juggernaut did exactly what the world expected them to do: win the second annual Eindhoven Team Trial. The Danish super squad trounced last year's winners, Gerolsteiner, relegating them to a distant third place behind the Discovery Channel boys in blue.

Like last year, most of the teams, with the exception of CSC and Discovery Channel, brought their 'B' squads. Prior to today's race, Bjarne Riis was quoted as saying, "We are taking part in this race for two reasons, first of all, this is a fantastic training opportunity that I want my team to win. I'm taking my strongest team to Eindhoven. Secondly, it's the ideal finishing touch after a period like this [referring to a block of Basso's recent training]. Concentrating for one hour on getting everything out of your body that you can, makes you reach the peak of your top form."

Even though Riis kept Ivan Basso home, in fear of overtraining, his squadra still won. The eight-man squadra: Lars Bak, Michael Blaudzun, Bobby Julich, Christian Müller, Stuart O'Grady, Brian Vandborg, Jens Voigt and David Zabriskie.

This victory bodes well for Basso's supporing cast in the upcoming Tour de France. Basso's climbing skills are finely honed as evidenced by his pounding of his rivals in the Giro d'Italia. And it now appears that all is in order in his team's TT department as well.

Ullrich, however, did a little thrashing of his own today in the final TT stage of the Tour de Suisse, giving him the stage victory and the overall GC honors. Things are indeed getting very interesting for the Tour.

Rounding out the top five was Phonak in fourth at 1'25" in arrears and fifth was Davitamon-Lotto 1'31" adrift.
