It Ain't Over 'til it's Over

Dust Devil

The young Australian Heinrich Haussler won the stage today. What Australian? Yes, apparently he was German born, and raised in Australia. The first leg in a dichotomy of victories by the Gerolsteiner squad (which was completed by Fabian Wegmann in the Tour of Poland a few minutes later).

The GC riders came in later in the day preferring to save energy for the Time Trial tomorrow. Which could be interesting, by the way. I always like to say that "it's never over until it's over." And if Heras has some kind of mechanical trouble or a crash, Menchov could be the "Jonny on the spot." Which is what Ween may have been referring to in their 1997 release, The Mollusk.

Don't forget that Heras has been robbed in the final TT before. Admittedly it was in a much tighter battle (2002 when he lost it on the final day to Aitor González) than the one before us this year.

It is looking good for Heras, but ... "it ain't over 'til it's over." Let's hope for an exciting nail-biter of a TT.
