Stages and Maps, The Dust Devil's Daily Wrap
It doesn't get a whole lot weirder than this. The Vuelta organizers apparently changed the stage 13 finish by shortening the stage by 10K. They had a KOM hot spot 200 meters from the finish line, which Mauricio Ardila (Davitamon-Lotto) took for the finish line and raised his arms in victory. Samuel Sánchez took full advantage of the situation and sprinted past the celebrating Colombian to take the "official" victory.
Most of the time I praise the Vuelta organizers for their ingenuity and the bold way they organize their race. But putting a KOM hot spot 200 meters from the finish? That's crazy! It's mad! It's insane! It's ... it's ... well it's nothing I would ever think of, that's for sure.
