Iban Mayo Interview
Next to Luz Ardiden, the Vuelta al Pais Vasco (or Tour of Basque Country) is the Holy Grail of cycling in the Basque Country. Local hero Iban Mayo, however, will have his work cut out for him if he hopes to improve on his fine 2nd place performance from last year. Last year's winner, Denis Menchov, just came off a strong 8th place in the Critérium International. The Danish super-squad CSC has been absolutely steam rolling the opposition this year so look for their aces Julich and Basso to do some damage. The hilly terrain around the Basque Country should especially suit the pocket size climbers Cunego (Lampre-Caffita) and Danielson (Discovery) After a convincing win in the Coppi e Bartali/Settimana Internazionale and strong performances all season long, Franco Pellizotti is BiciRace.com's pick for overall glory.
Stay tuned for daily race coverage on BiciRace.com starting April 4.
