The Gent-Wevelgem and it is truly worthy of the new ProTour status. The Gent-Wevelgem is that Classic that falls between Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix, and it is always a favorite among big and tough sprinters. Make no mistake, the Gent-Wevelgem is a prestigious win. Tom Boonen, Mario Cipollini, George Hincapie and Tom Steels have made this race theirs in recent history.
The 67th edition of the Gent-Wevelgem will serve as a good tester for those serious contenders for Sunday's Paris-Roubaix. Some will not want to risk too much, saving themselves for Sunday, while others will go head-down and full-out. Look for a guy like Tom Steels or Tom Boonen to repeat.
Keep an eye on the wind and rain to take their toll on the Gent-Wevelgem. Two climbs of the Monteberg (148K and 169K) and Kemmelberg (150K and 171K) are part of the deciding factors. If done in the rain, the Kemmelberg is oh-so dangerous and many will not risk it, but the Belgians always will.
