Gerolsteiner celebrated its first ProTour victory at the end of the 51K UCI ProTour Eindhoven Team Time Trial. On a hot and steamy day in Holland the water-boys took out the mighty Phonak TTT squad by 3 seconds, and early race favorites, Team CSC, by 24.

The course was made as a warm up for Tour de France Stage 4, Tours to Blois, 67.5K. The idea was good, but many of the 2005 Tour favorites decided not to show, or were racing in the Tour de Suisse. One team that did have the their Tour-gun was Phonak. The Landis squad fought hard to beat Gerolsteiner's time, but in the end came three seconds short. Also, Team CSC with Tour favorite Basso, was hard pressed to beat the German formation. But CSC clocked a solid third place, aided on the whole time by the Basso-Zabriskie duo.

Losers would seem at first glance to be Discovery and T-Mobile. The squads are the TTT favorites for the Tour in July, but were without their superstars. Lance Armstrong is in seclusion, training hard, while Jan Ullrich was showing his form in Tour de Suisse. T-Mobile tried hard, pumping beat-heavy music into the riders ears for the test. And Disco packed some Tour-heat with George Hincapie and Yaroslav Popovych.

When you look at the Gerolsteiner crew, it is no wonder they won. Michael Rich and Uwe Peschel are stacked with talent against the clock. Add to those the former amateur TT champion Markus Fothen, and you see half of the strength of the team. The bubbly boys proved well over the course, riding just under 54 minutes.
