While at EICMA in Milano, it was hard to miss the new stem by Deda Elementi. The Zero100 Servizio Corse put off a gleam of light that BiciRace.com just couldn't pass up. After a minute spent ahhing over the looks, we sought out the help of Fulvio Acquati, Managing Director of Deda.
Fulvio explained how the USA customers might be more comfortable with a name of Zero60, as the name of the stem is taken from the standard test used in autos or motos around the world for speed. ("Dude, how fast will your Camaro go from zero to 60?") You call it the Zero-Cento, "cento" being Italian for 100.
The Zero100 is built employing the most creative 3D forging techniques to arrive with an alloy (mostly aluminum) stem that is super-light and attractive. Directing the fibers of the alloys that form the stem allow for strength while avoiding an overbuilt product.
To add the icing on the cake, Deda pulls the stem together with four titanium screws up front and two to grip the steerer. The Deda technology brings the 120 millimeter stem to a low-weight of 107 grams, which stacks up to, or betters, many of the carbon newbies on the market.
Because Deda Elementi knows your are passionate about having high performing products that also look good together, they have released the classic Newton handlebar in a Dark Metal Polish. The 209 gram bar comes in three different drop shapes to accommodate your hands (Anatomic, Shallow and Deep). The bars BiciRace.com wrapped our hands around were double grooved to accommodate the famous Italian brake/shift levers.
