Magna MgC, A Sleek Saddle

BiciRace.com was wondering around the EICMA (Milano Bike Show) floor when we came across a shinny Mecca. It was not the espresso machine where we had spent the previous few hours, but rather the Selle San Marco booth. There we came across an array of saddles on display for every rider, with one saddle in particular which drew us in: the Magma MgC.

The Magma MgC is a new model for 2006, and it is like nothing we have ever seen before. MgC: the 'Mg' stands for Magnesium and the 'C' is for Carbon. Scientific lettering aside, this is one cool looking saddle! The majority of the saddle is mostly comoposed of shinny magnesium, with some carbon to round-out the corners and with rails in hollow titanium. It is a lovely mix of materials to top your ride perfectly.

But what about the weight? The Magma MgC is one of Selle San Marco's lightest saddles: 130g. (Throw in an extra 30g if you want a cover and some padding, the Magna Mg model.) The lightness comes from the use of Magnesium, which is light like carbon but allows for less vibration. The Magna MgC is currently the only saddle on the market offered in Magnesium.

Another beauty on display in Selle San Marco's booth was the Aspide C Passione. We were drawn into this model because of the different color options. Selle San Marco is offering the saddle in a wide range of slick-looking colored carbon. The gloss combined with the colored carbon weave looks stunning. Of course the saddle is impressively light, at 119g.

Plush and Classic

This saddle rocks. Plush with it's textured leather, and classic with it's six rivets, this saddle says: "Ride me. Take me from Milano to Sanremo." The underside keeps the theme going, reinforced steel rails from nose to end. All of this comfort and glamour comes at a cost. It weighs in at 369g. But hey, buy it and the Magma MgC, and get the best of both worlds.

See Selle San Marco's website for more information.
