Ooooh la la, che sexy! Those were the words BiciRace.com uttered when we came into the Lightweight booth at EICMA (Milano bike show). Lightweight is (secretly) known as the wheel manufacture to turn to if you want fast carbon wheels. Take a look at some of our Tour de France photos and you can see many of the top names riding on these German wheelsets (particuarly a famous rider who races in pink). Even though their teams are not sponsored by Lightweight, they have found a way to utilize Lightweight.
Stefan Behrens was kind enough to show us the goods for the new year, specifically the new Ventoux wheelset. The new Ventoux wheels are carbon fiber tubulars. The design, low-profile and 20 count spokes, makes these wheels more of an all-around wheelset. The weight of 950g per pair makes them the lightest wheels from Lightweight. Before leaving Lightweight's booth we were reminded by Stefan to 'check out the new derailleur!' Over to the right, on top of the bar, was this wonderful carbon creation. A full carbon derailleur, minus a few nuts and bolts, and pulleys. BiciRace.com quickly dismissed this item as a showpiece, and nothing that could possibly work. Stefan said, 'no, no', this is in use now, and plans for production will be in the coming two months. Full spec's were not available, but we were told that it is lighter than any rear derailleur on the market ... yes ... Lightweight.
