Saul Raisin (Crédit Agricole) is in stable condition after surgery was performed to remove the pressure to his brain caused by a hematoma.
Raisin crashed Tuesday with two kilometers to go in the stage 1 opener of the Circuit de la Sarthe (4 - 7 April). L'Americano, and all-around nice guy, suffered a broken collarbone, rib and scrapes to his hip and face.
Early this morning, the hematoma that had developed in the 23 year-old's head burst, causing a brain hemorrhage. Because the blood was too much for the doctors to remove, they placed Raisin in a drug-induced coma.
Following surgery this afternoon to reduce the pressure on his brain, Raisin's condition is reported as "stable", but he remains in a coma. The good news is that the surgery removed the threat to Raisin's breathing and heart activity. His condition is under close supervision and full diagnosis is expected soon.
A message from Saul Raisin's website, written by his parents, read: "Saul has had an unexpected turn for the worse. Please keep him in your thoughts. We are on our way to France to be with him. We will try to keep you updated."
BiciRace.com sends our best wishes out to Saul and his family. Hang in there buddy!
