On the heels of Germany and Switzerland's World Championship squad announcements, Spain have picked their nine.
Spain's nine does not include Oscar Pereiro (Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears) as his form is not what the team wants. The final spot on the team is for Carlos Sastre (Team CSC), if he wants it, if not it will go to Egoi Martínez (Discovery Channel) or Manuel Beltrán (Discovery Channel).
Road Race: Alejandro Valverde, Joaquím Rodríguez (Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears), Juan Antonio Flecha (Rabobank), Xavier Florencio (Bouygues Telecom), Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Iñigo Cuesta (Team CSC), Francisco José Ventoso (Saunier Duval-Prodir) and Luis Pérez (Cofidis)

René Haselbacher (Gerolsteiner) will be leaving Germany to join the Astaná squad. On his 29th birthday, the Austrian rider signed a two-year contract with the Kazakhstan-sponsored squad.
Alexander Vinokourov (Astaná) and Andrey Kashechkin (Astaná) took first and second on Vuelta a España stage 18. Vinokourov gained several more seconds on Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears) and Kashechkin pushed himself up into third place overall.
Vinokourov, in a rather nice move, allowed Kash to take the stage victory. It was something of a thank you from Vino to his compatriot who has turned himself inside out to push Vino into the race lead.
