Victor Cordero, who heads Unipublic, the organization behind the Vuelta a España, has announced that Comunidad Valenciana's wild card invitation to the Vuelta has been revoked. The reason given was their deep involvement in Operación Puerto.

Unipublic stated, "we have decided to withdraw the wild card from Comunidad Valenciana for participating in the Vuelta a España 2006. This Professional Continental team was invited by Unipublic under the conditions of the Ethical Code, and it was accepted by Comunidad Valenciana. We took this decision on the basis of our responsibility and credibility."

Cordero clarified his decision saying that CV signed an ethical code and with the team's assistant director (Labarta) and 17 riders being implicated he had no other choice but to exclude them from the event. Unfortunately, those riders thrown out of the Tour de France that hoped to salvage their season with a good ride in the Vuelta will not be invited to participate either.
