Yesterday in Valencia (Spain) Stefano and Maria Garzelli celebrated the birth of their first child: Marco. "He looks just like his mother," said Stefano. The little Garzelli weighed in at 3.4Kg (52cm), an ideal climbing weight if he can just take on a little muscle.
"In the next week or two I will be with my family and enjoy the experience of being a new dad," said the 2000 Giro d'Italia winner. "I know that it is still a little early, but I look forward to the day when I can go on bike rides with him." Obviously Stefano wants to pass on his racing secrets to little Marco, who might just be the next campionissimo.
All joking aside, we wish Marco, Maria and Stefano a happy new beginning. Congratulations from the crew at BiciRace.com. Auguri!

Jens Voigt, who crashed and tore three ligaments in his right shoulder, will need to undergo surgery. Last Sunday the German took a fall while at a cyclocross event when trying to clear a tree stump (read: Only a Torn Ligament for Voigt).
"I can't avoid the surgery, but the doctors told me it's not that complicated, so in less than a week I can start using my home trainer," said a the determined Voigt via CSC. "I can't remember the last time I was injured, so obviously it's frustrating to have to change my schedule a bit, but on the other hand I'm just happy it's nothing serious, and that it won't affect my preparations for next season."
Voigt (34) will undergo surgery this afternoon at the Martin Luther Clinic in Berlin. The procedure should be simple and he will soon be back on the open roads to start his preparations for the 2006 season. BiciRace.com sends our best wishes to Voigt.

Claudio Corti might be the new team manager of Barloworld-Valsir. The British/Italian/South African team may replace current team head, John Robertson, with the Italian. It would be a perfect slot to allow Corti to continue in cycling after the split from Lampre-Caffita.
Along with Corti could be his long time bike supplier, Cannondale. The USA firm has been with the Italian for many years, first with Saeco and then this year with Lampre-Caffita. This year Barloworld-Valsir had used the famed Italian frame, De Rosa.
Corti has a long relationship with cycling. During his racing days he was an amateur World Champion (1977), then as a pro he was twice Italian champion (1985 and 1986). After his time racing, the Bergamasco joined the management of Chateau d'Ax (1990), a team that included Gianni Bugno and Tony Rominger in the ranks. Corti found his way from the couch company to the caffè company, Saeco, in the late 1990's. While at Saeco he was associated with many top names: Mario Cipollini, Paolo Savoldelli, Danilo Di Luca, Gilberto Simoni and Damiano Cunego.
Corti's Teams:
Lampre-Caffita (2005), Saeco (1997-2004), Polti (1994), Gatorade-Mega Drive (1993), Gatorade-Chateau d'Ax (1991-2), Chateau d'Ax (1990).
