The San Francisco Grand Prix takes place today on the city's challenging streets. There are many big teams taking part, and one small team with a big member. The USA National team is a six man squadra with Fred Rodriguez on the line-up. Fast Freddie's Davitamon-Lotto squadra did not wish to spend the money and time involved in racing in the USA, so Fred went alone. He will have to ride this race on his own, following the right moves.

The race has huge importance for Fred Rodriguez, he calls this area his home. Fast Freddie will have his work cut out for him to win in San Francisco, there are a long list of riders that want victory just as bad. But, the rumor going around the BiciRace.com headquarters is that Fred is flying right now. Stay tuned.

Van Heeswijk On Friday

Max Van Heeswijk (Discovery Channel), winner of the Vuelta's stage 7 to Vinaròs, loves the Spanish roads "because they are broad and it's possible to ride at your own rhythm." Van Heeswijk leaned a lot from his former leader, Lance Armstrong, how to never give up and always keep the motivation high. This was an important aspect after the Disco rider flatted in the final part of Friday's stage. There was no Disco help to pace Max back in the race, he did that on his own. Then after rejoining the group he went on to win the stage, amazing.

He knew already how it felt to win a Vuelta stage, having won the final stage to Madrid in 1997. This year, there was a flurry of attacks in the in the final kilometers, including Steels and Boonen. For Max the victory was due to the fact the sprint was not well organized, which allowed him to find a good position in the closing meters. Now Max Van Heeswijk will be a marked man at the Madrid World Championships.

Heras Aims High in TT

Roberto Heras (Liberty Seguros-Würth) will have to keep a high spot in today's stage 9 TT to be competitive in the final GC. Here in party-town Spain, Heras will have to get down to business, "It's an important day with a hard and a demanding course," added the Liberty captain. His favorites for the stage are Denis Menchov (Rabobank), Carlos Sastre (Team CSC) or Francisco Mancebo (Illes Balears). The aim for Heras is to finish in the top 15.

Plenty of Tourists

Today the weather is nice again, lower 30°C and clear. The riders will have to watch out for the tourists and sand. The roads get lots of sand on them, making corning difficult at times. Also, there seem to be plenty of tourists here in this beach town that have had too much sun and fun.
