José Rujano (Selle Italia-Colombia) is considering a move to Quick-Step. Manager of Quick-Step, Patrick Lefevere has offered a two year deal to the little climber from Venezuela. Lefevere was impressed with Rujano's climbing in the 2005 Giro d'Italia. Rujano (23) won the stage to Sestriere and also the Mountains competition. Talks are also ongoing between Lefevere and Gilberto Simoni.
Bobby Julich (Team CSC) has had a wonderful season. The American (34) has won the overall at Paris-Nice, the Critérium International, and now the Eneco Tour. Both the Paris-Nice and the Eneco Tour were ProTour events, meaning points for both Julich and Team CSC.
Yesterday in Holland Julich achieved a double success, a stage win and the final overall. The American secured the red leader's jersey thanks to a storming ride and a week's worth of solid riding. "I contested the whole of this race against the clock at my own rate/rhythm, because I did not have intermediate time checks. It seems that I managed my effort well, given that I won," said Julich while celebrating.
"You cannot say that it was my race of choice. It was flat practically from beginning to end, and for the whole of the course there was a lot of wind," continued Julich. The 1st Eneco Tour of Benelux was plagued with rain storms and cold temperatures. "After the Mechelen prologue, which I raced under the rain causing the loss of invaluable seconds, I gradually started to have faith again." Now the American is off to race the Deutschland Tour (15 - 23 August).
