Gilberto Simoni (Lampre-Caffita) is passing on the 2005 Tour de France. The Giro d'Italia champion withdrew early from last Sunday's Italian nationals, after 220K. Simoni had asked the team staff to be exempt from the grand French race.
It is no secret of Gilberto Simoni's love-hate affair with the Tour de France, and thus not too surprising that he is choosing to pass. It is most likely that Gibo will resurface at the Vuelta a España, where he has a higher probability of performing well. However, he and Damiano Cunego might both end up at the Spanish grand tour in the fall. Future tension and excitement awaits, stay tuned.

Andreas Klöden and Jan Ullrich have lent their names to some cool vintage Volkswagens. The T-Mobile marketing team oversaw the restyling of two VW's. One is a VW Beetle, "Ulle", and the other is a VW Bus, "Hilde". Last week the cars were on show at the team presentation.
The VW pair will next be seen on the Tour de France route. Both "Ulle" and "Hilde" will make their way around all of France, covering all 3607K of the 2005 route. If you are in France keep an eye out for these VW's in the publicity caravan. Both have been restored in an all magenta manner.
