Lance Armstrong seeks retirement for his children ... "The biggest inspiration in my life now and the biggest inspiration in this decision is my children. They're the ones that make it easier to suffer but they're also the ones that have told me it's time to come home." He has had a long career, but will not continue past this year's Tour de France. "I have been doing this for 14 years, I have been a professional athlete for almost 20 years. The body does not just keep going and going and going."
Regarding the doubts on if he will be in top form for his last tour, Lance Armstrong believes so. He considers Jan Ullrich to be stronger than ever, but we at BiciRace think it will be someone besides Lance or Jan! Lance says, "This is going to be a different year for the Tour de France. I am one year older, and one I always considered a main rival, Jan Ullrich, he looks to be much better than he has ever been this time of year."
Armstrong is a true champion and wants to go out on top. He is now racing in the Tour of Georgia and is building up for the Tour de France. "Because of that dream to go out on top. I have to tell you that's a big deal to me."
Yesterday, after stage 1 of the Tour of Georgia, BiciRace.com talked with Matteo Algeri, DS for Prodir - Saunier Duval. Matteo, how did the team do today? Tafi was on the move early. "Today, first stage at Tour de Georgia and really good stage by my team! The first attack of the day has been made by who??? [Andrea] TAFI!!!" Tafi had attacked after 5K, but none of the other teams would let such a strong legend free, and he was caught after 5K more.
DS Matteo Algeri was extremely pleased with his young rider, Marco Pinotti. "Then 1 guy from Team CREF attacked for 130 km before ... caught by Pinotti! Pino stayed out for 20 km just before starting the 3 final laps of 4 km each." Not an easy thing to do for "Pino", but he is known for his TT abilities.
"I’m very satisfied by the challenge of my riders, and hopefully tomorrow we can obtain better results!" BiciRace.com sends it's well wishes out to team Prodir - Saunier Duval as they race around Georgia.
Also, BiciRace.com had a chat with Matteo Algeri on the day before the race, and now we have it ready for you. Algeri was a little tired...

Yesterday, in Stage 1 of the Giro del Trentino, it was Polish rider, Przemslaw Niemec (Miche), that surprised the favorites. It was a powerful win in very wet conditions for Niemec. (Italy does not have the warm weather of Georgia!)
The stage finished on the climb Ronzo Chienis, where Niemec powered away from his lead group. Francesco Casagrande (Naturino) and Luca Mazzanti (Panaria), finished 2nd and 3rd.
