That's right, it's not a misprint. Spain had quite a showing on Sunday's Paris-Roubaix with Juan Antonio Flecha on the podium and Carlos Barredo driving the break for over half the race. 23 year old Barredo (Liberty Seguros-Würth), from Oviedo in the Asturias region of northern Spain, has had an excellent spring campaign with good performances in Tour of Flanders, 3 Days of De Panne, GP Pino Cerami and, most recently, Paris-Roubaix.
Barredo knows how to suffer, and reckons this is his best trait for handling the brutality of the Northern Classics. Barredo prefers the hills of Flanders over Paris-Roubaix, and considers Paris-Roubaix to be the harder of the two due to his physical stature. Watch for this Spanish hard-man to be tearing up the cobbles for years to come.
