Frank Vandenbroucke is down as a starter for this Sunday's Paris-Roubaix. It could turn out to be quite a "Sunday in Hell" for Vandenbroucke given the lack of racing kilometers in his legs. Here is the MrBookmaker-Sportstech startlist for Sunday. Complete Paris-Roubaix startlist here.
231 Gorik Gardeyn
232 Camille Bouquet
233 Johan Coenen
234 Jeremy Hunt
235 Matthé Pronk
236 Erwin Thijs
237 Stefan van Dijk
238 Frank Vandenbroucke
Rain has been forecasted for Sunday in Northern France. Wet weather seems rather suiting for the Paris-Roubaix, a race in which rain seems to be more common than not. The riders will undoubtedly be well-prepared for a cold, wet day while battling it out over the cobbles. Many riders actually prefer a wet Paris-Roubaix over a dry one. In dry conditions, the riders have to face dust and breathing becomes very difficult.
Discovery and T-Mobile have not had good luck in the last two northern ProTour Races. In the Tour of Flanders and Gent-Wevelgem, both teams were not at the business end of the race when the line approached. Now with Roger Hammond possibly not starting in Paris this Sunday, it will be a tough day out. Hammond crashed in Gent-Wevelgem and broke his right thumb. Look for Hincapie and Devolder to head up affairs.
The team line-up with Hammond will be: George Hincapie, Michael Barry, Antonio Cruz, Stijn Devolder, Viatcheslav Ekimov, Roger Hammond, Ryder Hesjedal, Leif Hoste.
T-Mobile is promoting the 22 year-old Bas Giling. Giling will take the place of injured Andreas Klier, who took a bad crash in Gent-Wevelgem on Wednesday. Giling looks to Steffen Wesemann, who will lead the T-Mobile squadra in Paris-Roubaix. Wesemann has been doing specific training after coming back from an illness that did not see him finish the Tour of Flanders.
The T-Mobile squad for Sunday will be: Steffen Wesemann, Rolf Aldag, Eric Baumann, Marcus Burghardt, Bas Giling, Sergey Ivanov, Stephan Schreck, Erik Zabel.
